Our Goals

Cumberland’s goals are to nurture and challenge students to:

  • know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord

  • adopt a biblical world view

  • love one another as themselves

  • achieve academic excellence

  • grow into Christ-likeness as they mature spiritually, emotionally, socially, and physically

  • evangelize and make disciples of all nations

In order that they may bring glory to God by serving our Lord and others through their character, spiritual integrity, and leadership.

Our Philosophy

Cumberland is an independent Christian school that exists to challenge young people to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, to adopt a biblical world view, to love others as themselves, and to grow in knowledge and skill through academic excellence, in order that they may serve our Lord and others through their character, spiritual integrity, and leadership.

Cumberland is founded on the truth that the ultimate goal of all creation is to bring glory and honor to the triune God of the universe. The Holy Scripture says, “For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever! Amen.” (Romans 11:36) This verse teaches that since God is the source and accomplisher, the goal of all created things is His glory. Therefore, mankind’s and Cumberland's ultimate purpose is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. (Genesis 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 10:31)

We glorify God by obeying His Word. The Bible teaches that man was created in God’s own image and commanded to occupy the earth and have dominion over it. (Genesis 1:27-28) However, when Adam and Eve chose to sin, they destroyed their relationship with God and their ability to think and act as God intended. We inherit a sinful heart from Adam.
(1 Corinthians 15:21-22)

God provided a solution by sending His son, Jesus Christ, to earth to die for mankind’s sins. By repenting and placing our faith in Him, we can be saved from judgment, cleansed from sin, and restored to a right relationship with God. Now, guided by His Word and filled with the Holy Spirit, we can properly relate to God and manage the earth as He intended. The purpose of Christian education is to impart these and similar truths so that every student knows the reality of who they are and God’s plan for what they are to become.
(1 John 4:14, 1:7; John 3:16; Ephesians 5:18)
